Citi ThankYou points transfer 1:1 to nine major airline loyalty programs: Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Singapore KrisFlyer, Avianca LifeMiles, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Lufthansa Miles & More, Emirates Skywards, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, and JetBlue TrueBlue. Most transfers complete instantly and arrive at a flat 1:1 ratio.
Citi is the most underrated of the four major US transferable currencies. It has fewer partners than Amex (18+) or Chase (13), but its partner list includes Turkish Miles&Smiles — arguably the single best fixed-chart award program in the world for US-to-Hawaii flights and Star Alliance business class to Europe. Outside of Bilt, Citi is the only major US currency that includes Turkish. For travelers who already have Chase or Amex covered, adding a Citi card unlocks a meaningfully different partner mix that compounds your redemption options.
The Citi travel portal redeems ThankYou points at a flat 1 cent per point on the Citi Strata Premier — the lowest portal floor of the four transferable currencies. This makes transferring almost mandatory for anyone serious about getting value from Citi points. Booking through the portal is the worst outcome; transferring to the right partner is where the leverage lives. Always confirm award availability on the airline's website before transferring, since transfers are irreversible.

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles is the standout — Citi is one of only two major US currencies (alongside Bilt) that partners with Turkish, and the Turkish award chart has multiple anomalies that produce 4–7 cpp redemptions. Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is right behind, especially for Delta One transatlantic business class at 47,500 miles one-way. Singapore KrisFlyer unlocks Singapore Suites (A380 first class) for 95,000 miles one-way — arguably the most luxurious commercial flight product in the world. Avianca LifeMiles is a strong all-rounder for Star Alliance redemptions with low fees, and Flying Blue's promo awards regularly drop transatlantic economy to 30,000 miles and business to 50,000.
Economy one-way starts around 30,000 ThankYou points during Flying Blue promo awards, with standard rates 50,000–65,000. Business class via Virgin Atlantic costs 47,500 ThankYou points one-way (booking Delta One). Flying Blue dynamic awards range from 55,000 to 110,000 depending on date and route. Lufthansa Miles & More charges 80,000 but adds significant fuel surcharges. The Virgin Atlantic route typically wins on CPP because the cash price of Delta One is high and the fees are moderate.
At $95 per year, the Citi Strata Premier is the cheapest premium travel card that unlocks transfer partners — the Chase Sapphire Reserve costs $550 and the Amex Gold $325. The Strata Premier earns 3x ThankYou points on one of the broadest bonus structures available: air travel, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, AND gas stations. If your spending covers multiple of those categories, you'll outearn many higher-fee cards. The trade-off is fewer perks — no lounge access, no $300 travel credit — but for travelers who care primarily about transfer-partner access, the value-to-fee ratio is excellent.
Turkish uses a fixed award chart with three pricing anomalies that have survived multiple devaluations: 7,500 miles one-way for economy from the continental US to Hawaii (vs. 12,500+ on most US programs), 12,500 miles for Star Alliance economy within North America, and 45,000 miles for Star Alliance business class one-way to Europe. Bookable on United, Lufthansa, Swiss, Air Canada, and the rest of Star Alliance with low fees. The downside: Turkish's website and call center are notoriously difficult to use, and award space can be tricky to find. But when you can get it, the CPP is exceptional.
Each currency has a different strength. Chase UR is best for travelers who value Hyatt hotels, Virgin Atlantic for Delta One, and broad domestic short-haul utility via British Airways Avios. Amex MR wins on partner count (18+) and is the only currency that transfers to ANA Mileage Club (for Star Alliance first class). Citi ThankYou wins on Turkish access (Hawaii + Star Alliance business), and is the cheapest premium card to hold ($95). Many serious points enthusiasts hold one card from each ecosystem to access the full set of transfer partners.
The best documented CPP values come from Singapore Suites (A380 first class) via KrisFlyer at 6–8 cpp, Delta One transatlantic business class via Virgin Atlantic at 5–7 cpp, and Star Alliance business class to Europe via Turkish at 4–5 cpp. On the lower end, Flying Blue dynamic awards can range from 1.5 to 4 cpp. A reasonable target is 2+ cpp for good value, with anything above 5 cpp exceptional. The Citi portal floor on the Strata Premier is 1.0 cpp, so never transfer if you can't beat that.
