Iceland Is a Short Hop in Miles

East-coast U.S. departures to Reykjavík (KEF) sit at the shorter end of the transatlantic spectrum—often under 3,500 miles. That keeps economy awards relatively accessible compared with longer-haul routes to Asia or the South Pacific.

Some programs list economy one-way awards as low as 17,000 miles, while others start around 20,000–35,000 miles. Business-class awards typically begin in the 40,000–60,000-mile range on the best programs.

The Cheapest Programs for Iceland

The lowest published round-trip economy rates to Iceland currently come from Iberia Plus at 34,000 miles and British Airways Avios at 44,000 miles.

Alaska Mileage Plan and Virgin Atlantic sit just above at 50,000 miles round-trip. In business class, Iberia Plus again leads at 81,000 miles, followed by Virgin Atlantic at 95,000 miles and Alaska at 100,000 miles.

The Icelandair Saga Club Wrinkle

Icelandair’s Saga Club sits outside the major airline alliances. That means you cannot transfer points directly into Saga Club from Chase, Amex, Capital One, or Citi programs.

Historically Icelandair has maintained a partnership with Alaska Mileage Plan, allowing some members to redeem miles on Icelandair metal. Because we do not track Saga Club awards in our data, always verify current space and pricing directly or through the search tool.

Cash Fares vs Miles to KEF

Cash fares to Iceland frequently dip into the low hundreds on sale, especially outside peak summer. When a round-trip cash ticket costs less than the value of the miles you would spend, paying cash and banking the miles is often the smarter move.
